The Evolution of Everything

The Evolution of Everything

In previous posts I have explored some pretty big topics such as; Why are we here? Who created God? and Who creates life?

Now it is time to spin the thread further and muse around evolution…

Resolving the Irrational

When is the last time you zoomed out on life to consider a wider perspective? Well, here are some lenses for you to peek through…

The past exists as a collection of stored information in the human mind. The future is an imagined projection of what may happen constructed by the human mind. The present moment, right here, right now, is the only moment that can and will ever really exist.

You are on planet Earth. Planet Earth is spinning on its axis while orbiting around the Sun. The Sun is orbiting around the centre of the Milky Way galaxy. The Milky Way is orbiting as part of the Laniakea supercluster of galaxies… everything is orbiting and also moving upwards at the same time…

Remember that present moment… the here and the now… they are all unique in space and time.

In maths and physics there is the concept of irrational numbers. These are numbers that can never accurately be written because the decimal places trail on to infinity. We have all come across the most famous of these numbers π in our study of circles.

Irrational numbers present themselves all over physics in equations that are used to explain the interactions within the cosmos. Consider that these irrational numbers go on to infinity, and that space is always expanding, moving and changing… will the universe eventually resolve the equations containing these irrational numbers?

Will it ever end?

Classical Evolution

Now we have expanded our perspective, lets zoom back in and explore what is known around the process of evolution on planet Earth…

Darwinian evolution and the theory of natural selection is the predominant theory around how evolution works and is used to explain the manifestation of all life forms on Earth. This theory was coined by Charles Dawin around 1860 at about the same time that DNA was discovered; it wasn’t however for another 100 years that DNA was decoded by Watson and Krick thus exposing the recipe underlying life.

Our understanding of DNA and the theory of natural selection go hand in hand to provide a reasonable explanation for the process of evolution. What they do not explain is exactly where DNA came from in the first place.

Consider that every living organism at a cellular level has the same genetic processes at play, and that these processes are extremely complex. So complex in fact that there are an infinite number of other possible molecular configurations that would not enable life to form. Combine this with the fact that we have no evidence of the failed attempts of life to manifest which predate known archaeological records of the first manifestations of life, and you are left with a conundrum.

How did life actually get started?

Let’s leave that as one to ponder as we look ahead to what may come…

Epigenetics and Human Potential

So, we don’t know where the universe came from and we don’t know if it will end; we also don’t know where DNA came from and how life first formed… well, what do we know?

Since the initial decoding of DNA, humans have progressively increased their understanding of how genetic code relates to the physical and behavioural traits expressed in living organisms. While we are still learning, and there is a long way to go for us to have a complete understanding, there is an interesting phenomenon called Epigenetics which has been discovered.

Epigenetics is the study of how changes in gene expression influenced by environmental factors manifest changes in physiology and behaviour.

Classical evolution is all about changes in the genetic code being “selected” by environmental conditions over multiple generations leading to the formation of new species.

Epigenetics is about unlocking the potential in our genetic code through lived experience in a single lifetime, but more than just that; it is also about these changes in genetic expression being passed down the hereditary line.

Evidence

The process of epigenetics has been evidenced through multiple scientific studies look at both single cellular and multi cellular organisms. One particular study concerned holocaust survivors and gene expression associated to trauma regulation being passed down the hereditary line leading to increased vulnerability to stress disorders in offspring.

Studies have also show how positive environmental influence such as the practice of mindfulness and having supporting loving relationships can have an effect on gene expression in humans.

So, the experiences we have shape us not just psychologically but physically within our genome and to such and extent that we can pass these adaptions to our offspring during reproduction.

This “genetic flourishing” is in a way a contributing factor to evolution.

Takeaway

For humans to continue to evolve, we must first arrive at the optimal flourishing of our genes to then lead to productive mutation and selection through our natural environment.

This unlocking of our DNA and the spiritual evolution of the mind go hand in hand as both align with the thermodynamic law of entropy increasing within a closed system (the universe) over time.

Are we on the cusp of the collective consciousness of humanity discovering this untapped potential within ourselves leading to the formation of new societies with advanced ways of relating to each other and the environment around us?

I put it to you that within the metaphysical perspective that there is only one source, it is the practice of mindfulness and the channelling vitality that is the next Rubicon in the evolution of life on earth…

One universe… One source… and it contains both U and I.

“You are an aperture through which the universe is looking at and exploring itself.”

– Alan Watts

Enjoy, for now.
